393 Commonwealth Avenue – Boston, MA
OVERVIEW: It's essential to perform routine and long-term building envelope maintenance at regular intervals in order to protect and preserve valuable historic buildings.
THE ALPHA SOLUTION: The Alpha team performed several services to protect and preserve the prominent Back Bay Brownstone building at 393 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston, MA.
FRONT ELEVATION (Photo 1)
Aging sealant was removed and proper backing material and sealant was installed around the window perimeters. Step cracks were repaired and minor repointing was performed./p>
SIDE ELEVATION (Photo 2)
A vine growth covered the side elevation with many roots 2-3 inches in diameter, which kept the masonry constantly damp. To restore the masonry to like-new condition, the Alpha team removed the mortar and repointed the brick masonry. Alpha also replaced masonry on the upper 15 feet of the wall damaged from the vines.

As the project progressed, the vines were removed and the surface was pressure washed to remove a layer of mold and dirt. This project was successfully completed before winter's harsh elements and freeze-thaw cycles began.
