CHALLENGE: Water was leaking through the roof deck into the X-Ray Department of Southern NH Hospital.
THE ALPHA SOLUTION: The Alpha Team provided weatherproofing throughout all the various roofing elements and configurations using advanced polymer, fluid-applied roofing technology. A seamless, waterproof, elastomeric skin with no fasteners, seams, welds or joints was applied over complex roof and slab details.
THE PROCESS: After the existing roofing system was removed and proper surface preparation completed, Alpha applied an appropriate surface primer, and the new fluid-applied system was hand applied to the concrete deck, with a blown-glass in-mat form incorporated into the system to provide crack bridging and durability. A topcoat was then applied to form a monolithic, VOC compliant, UV resistant system that will withstand constant pooling of water without impacting the warranty.

Photo 1: An appropriate surface primer was applied, and the new fluid-applied system was hand applied to the concrete deck, with a blown-glass in-mat form incorporated into the system to provide crack bridging and durability.
Photo 2: Drain and flashing details were applied using appropriate primers, reinforcing mat and liquid membrane.
Photo 3: After the top coat of the waterproofing system had cured on highly-trafficed areas, another coat of liquid membrane was applied and silica sand was broadcast into the surface.
Photo 4: The broadcast system and the “lock coat” were applied in copper green and a water test was then performed to complete the application.
