Building Envelope RESTORATION Specialists

Two Clarendon Street Location: Boston, MA

Project Overview:

Challenge:
Because time and the elements had taken their toll on the clock tower of this beautiful structure on Clarendon Street near Boston’s historic Back Bay area, Alpha Weatherproofing was called upon to restore it.

The Alpha Solution:
Through the best combination of weatherproofing services and expertise, the Alpha Waterproofing team restored and beautified the structure for future generations to enjoy.

The building was first staged with full-height pipe staging, and netted for life safety measures and to protect the surrounding area. Many of the precast concrete elements around the tower had begun to fall and in some cases fallen to the ground.

Deteriorated decorative precast elements and flashing were removed and lowered to the ground elevation.

After extensive leak investigation and masonry repairs, which included 100% cutting and repointing of the original brick masonry on the lower section of the tower, the building was ready to be put back together. This included the fabrication and installation of copper through wall flashings below the precast bands and at the relieving angles.

The Alpha Weatherproofing team also completed multiple repairs to the ornamental stone work using specialized products to replicate the original surfaces. Replacement of sealant joints around windows, control joints, and dissimilar materials completed the waterproofing aspect of this project.

The project was completed with repairs to the slate roof on the tower roof.
